Connect Remotely To a TTI Workstation
This help guide covers the two steps necessary for remotely accessing your TTI Windows computer:
Finding your computer name and requesting remote access from Network and Information Systems
Configuring your remote computer to access your TTI Windows computer
Request Remote Access from Network and Information Systems
To request the ability to access a TTI Windows computer from a remote location, you must know your computer name. To find your computer name, please follow the guide and illustrations below.
-
Go to the Settings app and find your device name.
-
Windows 11
Windows 10
- Send a request to the NIS Help Desk (ttihelpdesk@tti.tamu.edu) requesting remote access capability for your TTI computer. Include the computer name from the above step in your request.
Setting up Remote Connection
Step 1: Find your IP address
- Open up a Command Prompt window by going to the search bar and typing in Command Prompt.

- Next, you'll need to type in the command ipconfig on the device that you are trying to remote into.

- Once you enter that, you should see a list of addresses. Write down the IPv4 address to use when connecting to the device.
Step 2: Configuring your remote computer to access your TTI Windows computer
- Find the Remote Desktop Connection application on the computer you want to use to remotely access your TTI computer. You can do this by typing in Remote Desktop Connection into the search bar.
-
Windows 11
Windows 10
- When you do, you’ll see an application window as illustrated below. Click the Show Options button as illustrated below.

- This brings up the configuration options as illustrated below. Click on the Advanced tab (circled in red) to bring up the area you’ll need to configure and click on the Settings button under the “Connect from Anywhere” section

- To configure the gateway, click the radio button in front of the second option titled “Use these RD Gateway server settings”. Enter the server name as gateway.tti.tamu.edu. At the bottom of the screen, check the box for “Use my RD Gateway credentials for remote computer”. Click OK and you’ll be returned to the advanced options dialogue box.

- As illustrated below, under the General tab. For Windows 11, enter the IPv4 address that you wrote down and kept from Step 1. Also, enter your TTI network username complete with @tti.tamu.edi.

-
NOTE: At this point, you may wish to save your configured information. Use the Save As option as illustrated by the arrow in the above picture. You can supply your preferred name and file save location so that you can easily find and access this remote connection at a later time.
- When you’re ready to start your connection, click the Connect button as highlighted in the figure below.

- You’ll next see a screen asking you for your password. Enter your TTI network pin/password. You can also check the Remember me box to have this information saved and make it a one-time entry need.
-
Windows 11
Windows 10
- You’ll see a screen similar to the below picture as the connection is established. Please note that by default you will need to authenticate your access via the Duo Mobile push method you use for other authentication needs. Passcodes or hardware tokens are not currently supported by Duo Security for remote desktop gateway.

- Once you accept via Duo Mobile, you’ll be presented with a dialogue box similar to the one below. Click Yes to accept and start your Remote Desktop Connection to your TTI computer.

- At this point you’ll be presented with a full screen view of your TTI computer. Depending on the options you selected earlier, you may have to enter your TTI network password.
- If you see an error that says you are not authorized, please contact NIS to enable RDP on your machine.

Notes:
1) You may want to go to the location you entered in the ‘Save As’ dialogue and drag the .RDP file to your desktop for easy access.
