How to use the "Join Local Admins Group" tool
This tool is used to add your TTI domain account to the local (this computer only) administrator group. This program is only applicable to TTI machines and does not apply to personal (non-TTI) computers. This tool should only be used in cases where there is a regular need for elevated privileges to install and update software or run research applications.
Once you are connected to the VPN, look for the program “Software Center”. You can do this by searching for it in the search box next to the Start button, or you may find it under the “Microsoft System Center” folder on the start menu. Click “Software Center” to open the program.
Now, with Software Center open; select the “Join Local Admins Group” button.
To begin the installation, click the maroon “Install” button.
The process will begin and should around one minute to complete. You should be presented with two pop-up windows during the process. The first asks you to confirm that you wish for your account to be added to the local administrators group and that you acknowledge and will adhere to the TTI Rules of Behaviour for Privileged Access Users.
After the program has run, you will see a second pop-up confirming that you have been added to the Local Administrators group, and you are directed to sign out, and then sign back in for the change to take effect.
After signing out and back in, your account will be added to the local administrators group. Please contact the TTI NIS Helpdesk if you need assistance with this process.
