Transition to TTI Managed Apple Accounts
As of February 13th, 2025, NIS is requiring that all TTI Apple Accounts (formerly Apple IDs) are managed by TTI. Any employee that has an Apple Account tied to their TTI email address (@tti.tamu.edu) will need to either transfer it to a work account or keep it as a personal account no later than March 15th, 2025, after which the account will automatically be converted into a personal account.
Transferring to a TTI managed Apple Account allows us to manage your Apple Account including viewing data in iCloud, resetting your password, and more information and activities related to Apple Accounts.
Decide when to transfer an Apple Account
There are different aspects users should consider when determining whether or not to transfer your personal Apple Account. Users may want to keep their Apple Account if:
- The account is used to store personal photos, iCloud Keychain items, or other personal data
- The account is used to make app, music, or movie purchases
- The account is used with Apple Pay
- The account is part of Family Sharing and provides subscriptions, music, movie purchases, or app licenses to other family members
Users may want to transfer their Apple Account if the account was created to:
- Be used primarily on work devices and to collaborate with other people in the organization
- Access services related to the organization, like Apple Business Connect, Apple Business Register, or the Apple Push Notification service portal
If an Apple Account can’t be transferred
Users are informed that they must make changes to transfer their personal Apple Account if one of the following services is used:
- Apple Account balance
- Apple Cash balance
- Apple Pay or Apple Wallet cards, including expired and parked cards (cards associated with the account but not provisioned on the particular device)
- Apple Store balance
- Find My
- Recovery Contact
- Health data
- Also, the user might be prompted to update the country or region of their account to the one of their organization.
In certain cases, users may also be presented with only one option—to rename the Apple Account and keep using it as a personal account. Here are some examples of when an Apple Account can’t be transferred to an organization:
- The account was created for a child (minimum ages may differ across countries and regions).
- The account has a Legacy Contact configured.
- The user has temporarily disabled their account in the Data and Privacy portal.
The account is using one of the following:
- iCloud+
- Family Sharing
- Sign in with Apple
- Recovery Key
- Security Key
- Advanced Data Protection
Transferring to a work Apple Account
If you would like to transfer the account to a TTI managed account, please follow the steps below. This allows us to reset your password, modify account information, assign purchases from Apple to your account, assists with setup, and more. If you have any questions, please feel free to open a ticket.
- Go to account.apple.com and login with your unmanaged TTI Apple Account, an Apple Account ending in @tti.tamu.edu
- After signing in you will see a screen similar to below except the due date. Select "Transfer to a work account".

A screen will pop up giving you information about how this will affect subscriptions and purchases tied to your account. Please note in the future you will be unable to purchase apps and more from Apple and will need to go through NIS. If you would like to purchase an app, subscription, or more from the Apple App Store please fill out a Software Request / Approval which we will then review and get back to you.
You will now need to confirm the transfer to a work account.
After confirming the transfer, you will now need to sign out of any devices that are signed into this Apple Account.
You will now see a confirmation message indicating that your account has been transferred to a TTI managed Apple Account.
At this stage you can log back into the TTI managed Apple devices using this account. If it asks for a verification code please contact the NIS Help Desk and let them know to change the role assigned to your TTI Apple Account from a student (the default) to Staff.
Keep as Personal Account
If you would like to keep your account as a personal Apple Account please follow the steps below. It is not recommended to use a personal Apple Account on a TTI managed Apple device or for work purposes as it may prevent us from being able to assist you in some cases.
- Go to account.apple.com and login with your unmanaged TTI Apple Account, an Apple Account ending in @tti.tamu.edu
- After signing in you will see a screen similar to below except the due date. Select "Keep as a personal account".
- You will now need to choose a new email that will be tied to this personal Apple Account since you will no longer be able to use your TTI email address. Enter an email and then you will need to verify the account with a code sent to the given email. you can also choose "Create an iCloud email at iCloud.com" if you do not have an available email address to use or your personal email is already tied to an Apple Account.
- After verifying your email your Apple Account has now been updated and converted into a personal account. Be aware that you will now sign into Apple using the email address you just provided no longer your TTI email. At this point you may also need to sign back into your Apple devices with your new Apple Account email.
